NDIS Physiotherapy Frequently Asked Questions

Eligibility for NDIS physiotherapy is determined by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) guidelines. Individuals who meet the following criteria may be eligible for NDIS physiotherapy:

  • Have a permanent or significant disability that affects their mobility, strength, or physical functioning.
  • Are aged between 0 and 65 years old.
  • Are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
  • Live in an area where the NDIS has been rolled out.

To determine your eligibility for NDIS Physiotherapy or organise a functional capacity assessment, it is recommended to get it in touch with our team.

The NDIS provides funding for a wide range of physiotherapy services to support individuals with disabilities. These services may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessments and evaluations: Comprehensive evaluations to determine the individual’s physical abilities, limitations, and goals.
  • Therapeutic interventions: Customised physiotherapy treatments aimed at improving mobility, strength, coordination, and overall physical function.
  • Assistive equipment and aids: Funding for specialised equipment, devices, and assistive technologies that enhance mobility and independence.
  • Home exercise programs: Development of tailored exercise programs to be performed at home, aimed at maintaining and improving physical abilities.
  • Education and training: Provision of information and training to individuals, their families, and carers on exercises, techniques, and strategies for managing physical challenges.

During an NDIS physiotherapy assessment, a qualified physiotherapist will conduct a thorough evaluation of the individual’s physical abilities, limitations, and goals. The assessment aims to gather comprehensive information to guide the development of an evidence-based individualised physiotherapy plan tailored to the person’s specific needs and goals.

The assessment process may involve:

  1. Reviewing medical history and previous assessments.
  2. Conducting physical tests and measurements to assess strength, range of motion, balance, and functional abilities.
  3. Assessing mobility and any specific challenges related to movement or physical function.
  4. Discussing the individual’s goals and aspirations for improvement.
  5. Collaborating with the individual, their family, and other support people to develop a personalised treatment plan.

Yes! In fact, Ability Action Australia is able to provide NDIS Physiotherapy services at your home. We have a number of mobile clinicians that service a variety of different areas in Australia. Find the closest location to you.

As well as doing exercises in the company of Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy exercises can often be performed at home through a personalised home exercise program that’s tailored to your needs. Home exercises can help individuals maintain and improve their physical abilities, as well as promote independence and ongoing progress.
